Royal Cruising Club Pilotage Foundation Publishes New Pacific Crossing Guide with CCA Help
The Royal Cruising Club Pilotage Foundation’s Pacific Crossing Guide has been the go-to guide for transpacific sailors since its first edition in 1997. Now the Pilotage Foundation, with Adlard Coles/Bloomsbury Publishing, has brought out a new, handsomely illustrated 4th Edition, masterfully edited by Francis Hawkings.
This edition, building on its predecessors and the RCCPF’s companion Atlantic Crossing Guide, updates the book for new developments in yacht design, gear, electrics, communications, navigation and safety. Part 1 covers preparing for a transpacific voyage. Part 2 describes Pacific weather, routes and itineraries and provides a country-by-country guide, including formalities and principal ports of entry and departure, across the Pacific.
The 4th Edition expands the book’s relevance for North American sailors, with expanded coverage of Alaska and the Pacific Northwest, California, Mexico and the North Pacific circuit. It adds substantial new material for Pacific destinations off the typical Coconut Milk Run, including Micronesia, Papua New Guinea, the Solomons, the Philippines, Japan, Chile and the Southeast Pacific.
The guide has benefited from major contributions of knowledge, expertise and photography from many CCA members, facilitated through former CCA Charts & Guides Committee Co-Chair Doug Bruce. The CCA, along with the individual CCA members listed below, receives institutional recognition in the book’s Acknowledgements section.
- Ellen Massey (BOS) - cover photos
