Roddy Hearne and the crew of Jaded, J-105.
Roddy started doing Swiftsures with Lon Robinson on his boat Gamin, later sailed with Michael
Pearson on his J-105, Bifrost 3, and later with Chris Phoenix on Jaded, J-105. Roddy noted the
general patterns of currents and winds, and how that affects the patterns for winning races.
Roddy noted Swiftsures where CCA members have placed well. Hugh Minor, Gerry Maurer,
Doug Fryer, Tom O’Brien all have first place finishes.

Gerry Meisner, Bruce Johnston, Doug Cole shared stories, Roger Werner shared about the
navigational challenges of finding the lightship. Doug Adkins told the story of the sinking of
Zubenubi II by Dorade, Mike Brown shared the story of being hit on the start line by
mountaineer, Jim Whittaker. Chris Phoenix shared a stories about sailing with Bill Cuffel on
Bluefin and some of Jaded’s races. Bob Cadranell, shared a story about running aground at
Race Rocks. Doug Adkins shared his concerns about the fragility of the TP-52s struggled to
race under the heavy weather conditions this year.
