Awarded to Thomas Adams, watch captain on sloop Kirawan in the 2000 Bermuda Race. Kirawan, built in 1936 of wood, recently restored, took on water through an opened seam after a pounding in the Gulf Stream. Adams went over the windward side in a harness with fore and aft steadying lines to caulk the open seam. His hour spent, under trying conditions, saved Kirawan from foundering.

The Rod Stephens Seamanship Trophy was presented to the Cruising Club of America by 21 of Rod’s shipmates and other friends. It is a perpetual trophy to be awarded by the Club for an act of seamanship which significantly contributes to the safety of a yacht, or one or more individuals at sea.
Juri and Chiu were cited for their short-handed rescue in extremely difficult weather conditions of a man found floating offshore in the waters of Southeast Asia. The award will be presented at the Club’s annual Awards Dinner at the New York Yacht Club in New York on March 4, 2016.
